Eating on the Cheap in San Miguel de Allende

Like the other places we've visited to date - San Miguel isn't super cheap. Most of the restaurants in area cater mostly to the throngs of older (and wealthier) gringos that roam the streets. They aren't extremely expensive...but it would be out of our budget to eat at them daily - after all, we are trying to get the most out of our money on this trip.

We have found a gem of a place just north of the hostel. Super cheap and delicious gringas (my favorite) - we've eaten there twice already. The pastor tacos are 4.5 pesos (0.40c CDN) on Monday and Tuesday. At those prices I'm not entirely certain how they make money - tight margins indeed. This point was illustrated by the fact the owner wouldn't let us leave with the bottle of Boing we had with our meal (he wanted/needed the bottle for the return). Even at the regular prices - the food is a steal. For those in the area here is the location. I don't know the name - sorry.

During our walk today - we found ourselves in a fruit market with a fresh juice stand. We were a little parched so we ordered some hand pressed juice. We got some pineapple and orange. I ordered the large size - which took at least a pineapple! The total was 45 pesos - which again, blew my mind - as I don't think I could buy a pineapple in Canada for that price in a grocery store. It was located here (in that market somewhere - just keep an eye for lots of fresh fruit stands). It was some of the freshest juice I've ever had.

Another good place for cheap gorditas is here (17 pesos each).
